Dougie qualified as a Solicitor in 1980 and a few years later co-founded the firm of Lennon Heather Solicitors, where he was involved for a period of 30 years spending some 25 of those years as Managing Partner.

Throughout his career Dougie has specialised in high level corporate and commercial law, commercial property and commercial banking and security transactions. During his career Dougie has acted for a number of very significant and well known developers and businesses both privately owned and publicly listed. In addition Dougie has acted for all of the major Banks in Ireland and guided the firm of Lennon Heather onto the lending panel for no less than 6 major banks all of whom had a very high level of activity within the Irish banking and property market.

Dougie joined Gore & Grimes Solicitors in June 2012 and migrated all of his clients to Gore & Grimes where he continues to operate in the fields of corporate and commercial law, incorporating mergers, acquisitions, fund raising and other corporate finance type transactions in addition to specialising in banking and property transactions and receiverships, liquidations and insolvencies generally including examinerships and personal insolvency.

Dougie served as a main Board Director of International Sports Management Limited for a period of 10 years and was chairman of the Board for 5 years. Dougie is a trustee of and runs the Darren Clarke Foundation and is a member of the Golf Digest Course Ratings Panel.

Dougie is also a main Board Director of the Irish Cancer Society and throughout 2011 and 2012 is the Chair of the Fundraising and Nominating Committee and within that context has spear headed the fund raising activities of the Irish Cancer Society in relation to all of its major fund raising activities. Dougie placed specific emphasis on the on-going project of funding the Daffodil Centres in all of the 13 cancer hospitals throughout the country and was personally involved in a number of presentations and fund raising events in that regard.

Dougie is also a non-executive Director and special advisor to the Board of Beary Capital a niche corporate finance house specialising in green energy, primary health care, debt advisory and property, banking and debt reconstruction.
